Celery from Rubbio, pride of a community

If you have the intention of visiting the Altopiano di Asiago at the end of summer, do not miss the chance to come and discover the community of Rubbio and its characteristic product: the celery. The one grown in this small town of 300 inhabitants divided between the municipalities of Bassano del Grappa and Lusiana Conco is an excellence of the Veneto area with great properties both at a culinary and medical level. Its properties are well known in these parts for at least a minimum, farmers began to present this product at the market on September 8th in Vicenza, dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, arousing great demand.

When you taste it you will discover that the celery of Rubbio has a strong and unmistakable flavor, the result of cultivation for months in an area kissed by the winds of summer and protected from the cold in winter, characteristics that make it unique in its kind. There are many health benefits that you can draw from the celery: this mountain vegetable contains many minerals and vitamins, this makes it a natural diuretic, with purifying and antirheumatic properties. These characteristics have allowed Rubbio celery to be included in the national list of agri-food products defined as traditional by the regions.

It is not very easy to find this "natural elixir" though: this is why you should come and discover this small town, its views and restaurants that will serve you the typical recipes of the area. Do not miss the traditional hot polenta served with a sauté of celery and snails, a unique dish of its kind! If you are not a fan of escargot, you can still enjoy the nutritious juices based on celery, lemon and carrot, salads but also soups that are able to enhance the characteristics of the typical local product. Traditionally, 8 September in Rubbio is still the typical day to celebrate celery, also thanks to a festival that until 2019 was held regularly every year.

The first days of September are the ones in which the harvest is carried out and the first fruits of a year of hard work are picked up: are you curious to get here to discover this tradition? To reach the area take the A31 Valdastico to the Dueville junction and then reach Bassano Del Grappa, from which you will have to take the provincial road 72 to get to your destination.
