Wonderful residences at the foot of the Euganian Hills

Around the Euganean Hills it is impossible not to feel the desire to hunt for beauty and art by taking a tour of the area. For this reason, get involved in this itinerary that in a day or a weekend will help you get to know this territory, touching some of its symbolic places. The starting point is the A31 Valdastico di Longare-Montegaldella motorway exit, from which a journey of about 30 kilometers begins in four stages, ending at the wonderful Castello del Catajo in Battaglia Terme.

First stop in Montegalda to be amazed by the statues and theatrical masks that populate the garden of Villa Conti Lampertico, known as "La Deliziosa", and then stop at the Grimani Marcello Castle, transformed from a military outpost to a sublime residence in which, among the crenellated towers, you will find a beautiful Italian garden. Then continue on the provincial roads 20 and 28 to reach Luvigliano where you will find the Villa dei Vescovi, an example of a style evoked by classical Roman architecture in a different style from that expressed by Andrea Palladio, with rich floral and mythological frescoes inside by the sixteenth-century Flemish artist Lambert Sustris.

Did you get hungry during the visit? Stop in one of the local restaurants to taste the excellence of the Euganean Hills area: risotto, the so called “pasta and fasoi” (pasta with beans) and the excellent boiled meat as a main course. No wine for those who drive, and you leave in the direction of Valsanzibio where Villa Barbarigo makes a fine show. Water games, a labyrinth, mythological statues: nothing is missing to capture your attention and stimulate your imagination!

Conclude your visit by going to Battaglia Terme to discover the Catajo Castle, which with its 350 rooms is considered the palace of the Euganean Hills. The Habsburg-Este and the Austrian emperors chose it as their summer residence. You will admire the scenic depth of the Cortile dei Giganti, designed for outdoor theater performances, and from the large terrace you can admire one of the most evocative views of the Euganean Hills.
